Los once ensayos que contiene Crisis de la moneda giran en torno al trabajo de Krugman sobre la economía monetaria internacional en un esfuerzo por darle sentido a un periodo turbulento -finales de los años setenta hasta el presente- en el que se ha "dado una sorpresa tras otra, la mayor parte de ellas desagradable". Los ensayos cubren temas claves como el papel que desempeñan las tasas de cambio en la política de ajuste de la balanza de pagos, el papel de la especulación en el funcionamiento de los regímenes de tasa de cambio, la deuda del Tercer Mundo y la construcción del sistema monetario internacional. El estilo y la metodología de Krugman dan unidad al libro: elabora un pequeño modelo teórico con el fin de simplificar o clarificar algún problema del sistema monetario mundial. |
